Couples Are Using AI To Fight – And Win – Arguments: ‘ChatGPT Says You’re Insecure’

ChatGPT can be used for almost anything, and in the world of romance, people have used the AI tool to plan their weddings, write their wedding vows, score matches on Tinder, and find companionship on internet – even if they are happily married.

Now couples are going further than using AI to fuel their relationships – they’re using ChatGPT to help them win arguments in a fight.

One person took to Reddit to reveal that their girlfriend uses the platform “whenever we have a disagreement.”

“AITAH [Am I The A–hole] to say she has to stop?” the person asked on the AITAH subreddit.

The 25-year-old explained that he and his 28-year-old girlfriend have had some big arguments as well as some smaller disagreements in their eight months of dating. And whenever they have a disagreement, the girlfriend will “walk away and discuss the argument” with ChatGPT — sometimes even while still in the same room.

He went on to say that when she does, “she will then come back with a well-constructed argument debunking everything I said or did during our debate.”

“I’ve explained to her that I don’t like to do that, as it can feel like I’m being bombarded with thoughts and opinions by a robot. It’s almost impossible for a human being to remember every little detail and break it down bit by bit, but AI has no problem doing it,” the user wrote.

He said that whenever he expresses his feelings about the situation, his girlfriend tells him that “ChatGPT says you’re insecure” or “ChatGPT says you don’t have the emotional bandwidth to understand what I’m saying.”

“My big issue is that she’s the one formulating the demands, so if she explains that I’m wrong, she’ll agree without even having a chance to explain things,” he wrote.

“AITAH [Am I The A–hole] to say she has to stop?” the person asked on the AITAH subreddit. Reddit

“It is literally programmed to tell you exactly what you want to hear. Discuss her actions with ChatGPT from your perspective and she will do the same to her,” said the commenter. “Show her how it’s biased and only serves as an artificial form of self-esteem.”

Someone else added: “I noticed that…it’s programmed to reinforce your position. It’s machine learning to an absurd degree, but machine learning nonetheless. He asks people to rate the answers. She thinks she’s impartial because she’s a robot, but she’s a robot programmed to tell people what they want to hear.”

One user even brought the man’s situation back to ChatGPT to ask if they were really the hole of the situation, and ChatGPT itself said: “While AI can be useful for many things, it should not replace the original, human-in-Chats human beings that are nuanced, emotional and require empathy…While AI can provide thoughtful input, it is no substitute for emotional intelligence and understanding the complexities of relationships.

The AI tool also noted that, “As you mentioned, the way she frames her requests affects the advice or feedback she gets. If she mainly explains the situation in a way that favors her side, the response has likely to reflect that. This makes it a biased tool rather than a fair mediator.”

Others joked that the man should tell his girlfriend that ChatGPT told him to break up with her.

“Answer ChatGPT until she gets the point,” someone said.

“Tell her you consulted ChatGPT and she told you to break up with her,” said another.

“NTA. Tell her to set this request: ‘How do I break up with my girlfriend?'” one user joked.
